Cruising the inside passage with ports of call including Ketchikan is a wonderful family vacation. You may have seen an ad on TV wherein a small child and an adult are seated together for dinner on a cruise ship. As the child stares at the unknown adult, no words are spoken and the adult begins to become uncomfortable. This was standard dining on most cruise ships until Norwegian Cruise developed Freestyle dining. Thus, you can choose the restaurant, the time, and the seating arrangements for you and your family.

An Alaskan Cruise on the Norwegian Star may be the perfect vacation for your family. Departing from Seattle, the ports of call include: Inside Passage, Ketchikan, Juneau, Sawyer Glacier, Skagway, and Prince Rupert, British Columbia. This 7-night Alaska Cruise is very affordable and the ship itself has been design for families with small children to teens.

One of the benefits of cruising is that the ship is your hotel and, unlike tour packages, there is no packing and unpacking required. Once you board the cruise line, you can settle in for the duration of the cruise while being offered every conceivable amenity. You can enjoy each port of call unencumbered.

Besides the magnificent beauty of Alaska that awaits you, the Norwegian Star has multiple dining facilities, casino, entertainment, and two decks that have activities for children up to 12 years of age, as well as an area set aside for teens.

Here are a few highlights you can look forward to: Two main dining rooms offering traditional dining; a restaurant offering such fare as ribs and burritos; another offering Italian cuisine such as pizza and pasta; an Asian restaurant, a restaurant offering Pacific cuisine, a French restaurant, a Steakhouse, a Bavarian restaurant, a Garden Café, and another that is open 24/7 for those late night cravings.

Moms and dads can relax as their kids enjoy Planet Kids, which encompasses activities including computers, a movie theatre, nursery, and playroom. The teen area has been designed with a dance floor, computers, and a living-room area where teens can just hang out and socialize. There is also the Video Zone complete with video games and there are two pools for kids as well; has two slides and a wading pool. There is also babysitting service on board for a slight fee.

The accommodations are superb and whether you prefer inside or outside cabins, the prices are quite affordable this summer. The ships depart from June through September, so it is recommended that you book early.

The kids will never grow tired on this cruise ship and having the ship as a home base makes it that much easier to visit the ports of call in a more relaxed manner. Besides, who wouldn’t enjoy being pampered 24/7?

Check out Norwegian Cruise Lines and their Alaskan cruises. There are several departure points you can choose from and most leave on Saturdays. Alaska is unlike any place in the world; and the landscape is so breatktaking that you will never forget this adventure anytime soon.
